"Writing in the Margins: A Refugee's Stories" is, quite simply, a collection of stories. Asma, a former refugee from Somalia, shared her experiences with me, Taylor, over a series of conversations that I recorded. We then decided to share it in this format: as a podcast with scripts you can read along with.

Clicking on the tabs at the top of the page will bring you to a series of audio recordings and their matching transcripts, so that you can listen and read at the same time. However, you can also find playlists with just the audio by going to the "For Further Exploration" tab.

 

Though this is a collaborative ethnography that incorporates anthropological research, you can read or listen to as much of "Writing in the Margins" as you like. Each of Asma's stories stands on its own, and any further exploration you pursue will only bring more light to Asma's experiences and your own perception of who a refugee is (and isn't).
